Beau∙tea

“Tea is quiet and our thirst for tea is never far from our craving for beauty” – James Norwood Pratt

I am in love with beauty. I love to look for it in the little things and big things, I love admiring it, and I love its many forms. Often, when I am out and about in public and I am idle, I like to observe people and admire their best features. To many, “beauty” might mean an unrealistic standard. But to me it means the sparkle in someone’s eyes, the crooked teeth in a genuine smile, or messy hair at the end of a long day.

The ability to find and appreciate beauty is easy. All you need to do is look around and you’ll find beauty everywhere. Look for it in the little things like the slant of sunrays through the windows, or bigger things like the sunrise or sunset itself. More often than not, you will find that simpler things hold more beauty rather than something extravagant.

The other day, I made myself a cup of Seventh Heaven from Sublime House of Tea. I put it in a pretty cup and enjoyed the morning. It is amazing how a good cup of tea can make you feel genuinely happy. Tea is truly a hug in a cup. This truly sublime, truly heavenly blend poured into a dainty blue teacup was my dose of beauty. Just the aroma was enough to send me over the moon. I personally love fruity teas, and this was the perfect blend of black tea and tropical fruits.

Seventh Heaven is made from high grown Nilgiri tea and dried fruit. It comes in a little silken pyramid that showcases the tea inside. I noticed tiny blue petals in it as well, which probably lent the hint of floral aroma in all the fruity, black tea goodness. It has a beautiful bouquet and brews a deep and shiny colour. The flavour is truly enjoyable. Just like its aroma, the head notes are fruity, leading into the underlying depth of the black tea and fading out with more fruity tail notes. I couldn’t decide if the fruity flavour was only tropical or maybe a little citrus too, but I was too swept up in the genuine delight of tasting good tea to dissect it too much. I usually like to add a little sugar to my black tea, but this tea had a slight natural sweetness to it that made it quite pleasant to drink without any added sweetener.

The beautiful blue teacup made the tea more enjoyable for me as well. With my love for beauty comes a love of pretty things, especially teacups and teapots. I love collecting these things and unlike most people, I don’t put them away. I like to use them, admire them, and feel happy. Appreciating beauty is a lost art. Life has become so fast paced that we humans forget to pause. Running after success and money has made us forget what truly matters in life.

Few are the dreamers and soul seekers who still dare to wander in the woods and chase the stars. And they are the ones looked down upon for eccentricities that make them individual. But as I once remember reading – “Blessed are those who see beautiful things in humble places where others see nothing.” So my dear reader, remember to look for glitter where others see dust.

All the love, T.
